About the Author
Alex Ranger (pseudonym) writes from lived experience rather than theory. Before turning to writing, he served in the military, where he saw first-hand how quickly ordinary situations can deteriorate and how much difference clear communication and calm decision-making can make. Those years cemented one conviction above all others: in a crisis, your first duty is to safeguard your family. Every book Alex writes starts from that concern and works outward.
Away from uniformed service, Alex spent more and more time in the outdoors, testing equipment in forests, hills and bad weather, and learning how fragile modern conveniences really are. That combination of ex-military training and civilian life as a husband and father pushed him towards survival skills, preparedness and public awareness. He is less interested in extreme “doomsday” scenarios and more focused on the realistic problems that can hit any household: power cuts, severe weather, network failures, travel disruptions and medical emergencies. In each case, he asks the same question: what would my family actually need to stay safe and in control?
Radios became central to his answer. Alex’s interest in communication gear developed from a professional necessity into a personal passion. He has spent years working with handhelds like the Baofeng UV-5R, experimenting with antennas, testing range in different terrain and building simple communication drills that his own family can use. For him, radios are not collector’s items or technical toys; they are tools that allow ordinary people to stay in touch, share accurate information and make better decisions when other systems fail.
The books Alex now writes reflect that practical mindset. His guides focus on emergency communication, basic tactics, survival planning and everyday preparedness, always written for readers who have busy lives and families to protect. Rather than chasing obscure theory, he concentrates on clear instructions, checklists and realistic scenarios that readers can rehearse and repeat. The Baofeng Radio Survival Handbook is part of this ongoing project: a series of manuals designed to help preppers, outdoor enthusiasts, radio hobbyists and, above all, parents and carers build the skills and confidence to protect the people who matter most when the unexpected happens.
